The radiator (if clean inside) should be able to deal with the 16v.

Making sure the unit has those press board air directors on the side and
top is important (or equiv.), and having an oil cooler would be a great
idea, if it had a thermostatic valve built in.

I think Potter <http://www.parts4vws.com> can direct you to one that
will line up ok. Maybe an A2 Jetta unit.

This is a great time to re-engineer out the dreaded 16v multimillion
dollar rad hose made of exspensivtanium.
