Need sources: Shift Knobs

Along those same lines, www.reidtool.com has some cool Soft Touch knobs, in several styles, that would work with the same mods as Pieper mentioned.
  They are less than $4.
(I'm finding myself becoming more like Cheapazz as time goes on...)
I bought one of each style, just to see what they are like ($4, remember).
They are rather 'retro-looking', but you wouldn't see many cars with the same shifter knob.....
I haven't installed any of them because I like my big, white, Hurst-style knob. In an all-black interior, it gives a little visual point of interest.

shift knobs: http://www.mcmaster.com/catalog/109/html/2006.html# Item 62195K21. Of course you
have to re-tap to M12-1.50, but that's 5 minutes. Cost: $3.52. Looks stark and mean, like Mike
  Tyson.

shift boots: Spare naugahyde and a sewing machine. 30 minutes. Use contrasting colored thread
for the suspr fast euro look. Cost: almost free.

Hey, they call me cheapass for a reason.

  Cheapass Ron
