16V Lifters ticking?



Wait -- valves tapping the pistons?!  All he did was change ignition 
timing, not cam timing!

Changing ignition timing won't have any effect on cam timing!  Don't 
worry... no threat of valves contacting pistons there.

Lifters and ignition timing shouldn't be related at all.  Are you sure it's 
lifters?  It could be that you have advanced the ignition so far that it's 
firing before the intake valve closes completely (and/or before TDC) and 
you're hearing that detonation.  I'd do what you said - put it back to 
stock 6' - 8'  BDTC timing.  That shouldn't have any effect on lifters, but 
if the noise stops, you probably were hearing detonation...
