My take - Cincy 2k3

The last Scirocco has left. I am all alone. I feel so
empty now. :p

Another Cincy has come and gone. I hope that everyone
enjoys it as much as I enjoy putting it on, if not more so.
This year had an ever-so-slightly smaller turnout than
last year, but it was everything I expected. I found it
was FAR more relaxing having just list members attending
than it was hosting it for anyone off the street.

Someone left a bunch of tools here, most out on the trailer
by the barn, a few in the garage. Also a couple of lawn
chairs. There's probably more but I've not found it yet.
Dan Smith - I found your sunglasses. Anyone missing
anything, contact me off-list.

The play-by-play as I saw it:

Thursday saw the arrival of Jim Jarrett in his Scirocco.
Yes, he really DOES own one, Big Mac checked the
registration. Jim & I took the F-150 to Columbus to pick
up Dan's green '84 Mk 2, then over towards Dayton to nab
Cathy's "new" '79.

Friday we got up fairly early and delivered the Cessna 150
to its new owner. (Thanks for the air-to-air pix Jim,
they're really awesome!) By the time we got home, Mike
Leach had arrived, so I put him & Jim to work setting up
the tent etc. Around dinnertime Friday is when the
caravans all started showing up in fairly quick succession.
Money kept flying my way for food & port-o-lets, and I
managed to collect enough to cover all by the end of the
weekend. Dinner was finally ordered, and by the time I got
it back home (30 pizzas worth) it had started raining.
Luckily, it only rained overnight Friday and into early
Saturday morning.

Saturday was slow to get going due to the rain. However,
tech procedures did ensue, with the highlight (IMHO) being
Ron's tranny teardown. Towards evening Ben headed up the
tower, talkabout in hand, to start symbol assembly. It
looked good, but we've done better in the past I think.
Plus, we didn't use all the cars - in hindsight we could
have crowded the cars forming the circle in closer together
to use more of what was available. I'm sorry to all those
whose cars didn't make it. Next year.....

Anyway, I really enjoyed trying to make Jim scream by
looking *up* at Ben on the tower when we made the low-pass.
It didn't work, Jim merely giggled. :p

Dinner was served shortly thereafter. A HUGE thanks goes
out to Chuck & the Texas crew for bringing the brisket, and
to Ellen & Katie et al for taking care of the rest of the
food preparation. You guys did a fantastic job!

Finally towards evening's end, we dug out the video
projector and had another video screening. I think next
year we'll try and get this a bit more organized so it's
not a lot of hunting for the files that we want to see. It
was also suggested to just not do any more video. We'll
see, it's up to you guys really!

The highlight of Sunday was the road rally. Andy Porter &
his son Alex came in right on the dot at 43 minutes,
followed by Allyn & Ron in the Reiger. I had thought about
some small gift certificates to Virtual World Parts as
prizes - sound good?

Sunday afternoon, it clouded up and poured. Most people
had departed by this time. I heard back from a couple
folks that left after it started and they said it was some
of the worst rain they'd been through. I don't envy them
in the least, but it sounds like everyone made it home ok.

A few folks stayed 'til Monday, which was a nice way to
wind down the weekend. Dan & Lacy were the last to go
somewhere around 3:30 Monday afternoon. I spent some
recovery time in the garage loading the F-150 with all the
trash & empties. You guys are a neat bunch, literally, as
there was almost no trash to pick up (like one Sprite can)
- all I had to do was load the trash in the truck and take
it to the curb. Thanks for making this so easy.

A big thanks goes out to everyone who turned a wrench on my
16v. I had intended to get the 2.0 done beforehand but I
didn't have time. I worked on it a bit last night with
Anson, the timing is set, the coolant system appears to
have been burped, the brakes are bled.... now to replace
the alternator as we discovered it has some very bad
bearings. Oh, and re-install that pesky sunroof.

IS IT TIME FOR CINCY 2K4 YET??!??!??!
