Motor swap in a 1.8 16v



I agree with Dave...at least do the rod bearings since you'll be pulling the rods out with the pistons anyway.  Main bearings will be your decision.
  Replacing rings, rod bearings, and pan and cam cover gaskets does not constitute an overhaul by any stretch of the imagination, but it is something you can do yourself in a weekend.

  If your gonna to rings you may as well to rod and main bearings.  For a few
  more bucks you add the engine gasket set and you have yourself an overhaul!!
  I wouldn't do rings without doing bearings, just my opinion though!
