The tranny lives! (long-esque)

<P>Lucky bugger! I dream of the day I can afford a quaife and of course 6th is a luxury far from my grasp at this point. I'm still getting to know my new ratios but at this point I usualy wait for 5th until 65 or 70 but occasionaly cruise as slow as 55 in fifth. The 3.89 truly is a wonder to drive yes?</P>

<DIV></DIV>Hi Anson
<DIV></DIV>I have a 9a tranny in my 79 Scirocco It was built by Vince at V/L in Oregon. It is a six speed with a Quaife using V/L's 6 sp conversion. We have a 3.89 final the 9A close ratio gears except switching a .91 for the .89 5th because it is a stronger gear and then the 6th gear is a .71 The gap between the .91 and the .71 is big but not huge like your gap between 4 and 5. With your gap from 1.13 to .71 what do you run on the 60-65 mph roads? I find the .71 great for the freeway ( at 75 I'm turning about 3 grand ) but the .91 is my country road cruising gear.

<DIV></DIV>gearing is a true joy other than the four/five dive, I used a .71 fifth for the freeway stuff.
