Hi Anson;
The only VW AI chassi trannys I have driven much are 3.89 final .71 =
top FF's They really are a very nice wide ratio tranny. A 3.89 final =
with .89 fourth and a .71 fifth. Just an all around great tranny if you =
drive a lot. I have one in my 80 Rabbit PU with a JH 1800 engine and =
also in my 81 Rabbit PU with a 1600 Jetta turbo diesel. I had a 4K in my =
84 Rabbit GTI and the 3.94 final and the .89 fifth made for approx 4000 =
rpm at 70 mph and that is a little buzzy. This 6 speed lets me have my =
cake and eat it too. A close ratio 5 speed with a long legged 6 th gear. =
3000 RPM equals 75 mph in 6 th. All in a=20
1979 Scirocco with good suspension and a strong 1800 8 valve plus a =
tranny with a Quaife and 3.89 final 3.45 first 2.11 second, 1.44 third, =
1.12 fourth, .91 fifth and .71 sixth. I just wish I had enough money to =
have another one built for my 1981 1600 Turbo diesel pickup

Lucky bugger! I dream of the day I can afford a quaife and of course =
6th is a luxury far from my grasp at this point. I'm still getting to =
know my new ratios but at this point I usualy wait for 5th until 65 or =
70 but occasionaly cruise as slow as 55 in fifth. The 3.89 truly is a =
wonder to drive yes?
