OT jetta idle fixed + compressor clutch noise

did the o2 sensor swap on the jetta today. some dummy misthreaded the old
one and it took an act of god to get it out, and the new one in (as i dont
have a 3/4" thread tap). when all was said and done, i had a nice smoothly
idling jetta, no more hunting. took it for a quick spin and realized just
what kind of cam the prev owner threw in there, as all was now working as it
should have been, and i had some nice power.

took the opportunity to rotate the tires, bang a couple of bends out of the
wheels, even hit the engine with some gunk engine brite (holy crap that
stuff works wonders). hosed out the engine bay and started it up to assist
drying. helped the drying with some compressed air and when i went to shut
off the engine i was greeted with a pegged (high) coolant temp and flashing
red light. this seemed odd, since the engine was nowhere near overheating
(fan was cycling like normal, engine bay still cool, reservoir cap relief
not lifting). i checked all temp senders, none were wet, i could find no
shorts, waited a few minutes and restarted, kept idle at 1200, engine temp
normal, weird. since its idling at the normal 1000 rpm now, it may not be
getting sufficient coolant flow at its new low idle. may be time to do the
purple power shuffle with the radiator.

last issue: the compressor clutch is making a horrible shreak with the
engine running. i managed to stifle it with some oil for the moment. has
anyone done a clutch swap? or is there some way to disassemble/properly
grease this thing to get some more life out of it? its a stock compressor on
a car with almost 300k, so im thinking the bearings are on their way out.
