Marc, a comparison was never made about A1 suspension versus the Pint=
o. No,
Joe was simply saying that this particular book (which I own, too) ha=
sn't
been updated since the 70's. The Pinto is only one of the many (ancie=
nt)
cars that are discussed along with the early watercooled dubs. :^)

Pintos:
rear solid axle and leaf springs with front coils, shock absorber com=
bo.
(just like they did it in the '40s, or a 2001 Camaro for that matter)

A1s:
rear twist beam, with front macpherson setup. (inovative in the '70s)

By 2002 standards, a Scirocco is outdated, but if you compare it to a=
 Pinto,
or any american car from the '70s, it is years ahead.
