[OT]Buying a "Normal" car?

I am kind of looking for a new car slowly too. There are a couple of A3 VR6 GTis 4sale on vortex, but they all want close to 10 Grand for 96 or 97 models. That seems kind of high to me, but don't really know the book value of these. Or if they have good track records for that matter. When I say track records I mean reliabilty not how fast they are on a track BTW.

I feel like I don't drive enough to justify having a TDi or I'd get one. Especially after reading here how much better the A3s are than the A4s. Were A3 Golf TDi ever available in the States? A4s for that matter too ? The only TDi I ever see on the road are Jettas and I am a hatchback kinda guy.

There is a beautiful Jazz Blue 97 VR6 GTi available just over the George Wash bridge by me, w/only 68K miles, but the guys wants 9K for it.

Plus what do I do w/the Rocco ?
