SIX years ago??? My first flirtings with Linux were late '91, early '92.
After a brief session with OS/2, wolfsburg.cs.uoguelph.ca became my first
Linux desktop install in the summer of 92. Going into my 11th year of
running Linux, on my 3rd hardware platform (currently Redhat 8.0 on a
pII450 w/512 mb of ram) and my 4th major install/upgrade, I can safely say
that Linux has come A LONG LONG, LONG way, baby.

For the Linux Newbie looking to get their feet wet I would recommend
Redhat 8.0 - it's dead simple to install, has good hardware support, and
has enough toys, bells and whistles to allow the average user to do most
of what they need to do.
