Scirocco crazy

Even base models have this memory function? Hmm, I'll try that shifting thing, I haven't because I wasn't sure if shifting an auto was a good thing or not. For all the driving I do, it certainly seems stuck in it's ways. It's insanely slow on takeoff when cold and slow until around 3.5-4k rpm when warm. Guess I just gotta teach this car a thing or two. ;)

When I have to drive the '00 Jetta (auto) I still shift that POS manually.

Drop it into 1st when leaving, and just shift from there. It works. AND - if
you recall, those cars have a 'driver memory' that is supposed to remember
the driving habits of the individual driver at the helm.

Mine sure remembers me.......

Man do I know what you guys mean. I've had to cruise around in an '00 Jetta
2L auto for the last month or so and at first I was loving it. Good heat,
comfortable ride and a nice Monsoon sound system with CD player. But now,
I'm just about ready to drive a John Deere if it has a stick. I miss
stomping it, shifting at 5.5k rpm and trying to shift as fast as I can, just
cause. I'll be old and grey before I buy an auto, they're so boring and when
pulling out in front of traffic, you can never really trust on how they'll
act. I always find myself either going, "God dammit, shift already!" or
"Ack! No, don't shift, accelerate!" The worst is the mountain pass/highway
between me and Denver. Speed limit is 55 or 60, and the shift point is right
at 65. Car downshifts, speeds up to 65, upshifts and then doesn't have the
power to maintain 65, so creeps down to 60ish and upshifts again. This goes
on for about 30mi or so, no wonder the tranny is already having all kinds of
issues. Blech.

i've given many people rides in the rieger over the past few years, and
nearly every person, upon getting in, starts spouting about how they 'had a
friend who had one of these back in the day', and during the drive they
recall the fun times they had in it...
...then i promptly give them some nostalgia...

Last night, I realized I'm hooked on my car. I had to pick a guy up this
morning for work so he could get his new CLK500 from me. That means that I
had to leave my car at work last night and drive home a 2003 E500. I could
hardly stop thinking about if my car was OK at work. The silly part is
there is not a car on the lot, including the used ones, that is less than
$25,000 and here I am thinking that someone is going to home in on my
Scirocco. So there I was, driving a 300 hp Germany luxury machine, and all
I could think about was my little 4 cyl. I'm so happy my car was fine
through the night.
