ABA Swap - AC Compressor & Alternator

I have done this swap (ABA using complete motor - intake manifold to oil pan
including A3 accessories) in an  A2 chassis ('88 Golf), and have tried
fitting the A2 accessories, as well as the A3 accessories. If you were to
use the A2 accessories, and wanted to use AC, and PS, the lower part of the
intake manifold would need to be machined down on the outside runner. There
is insufficient clearance to allow adequate adjustment room for the
alternator belt. I ended up using the A3 acessories and keeping the
serpentine belt setup. It required notching the A2 chassis front motor mount
carrier/radiator support for AC pulley clearance. This would be a major
obstacle in an A1 chassis , as the AC compressor sits much lower due to the
mounting point with the A3 bracketry, and serpentine belt setup. This is why
you see very few full ABA swaps in A1 chassis using AC. All of the above
information is assuming that the person is using the complete ABA motor
(bottom end/cylinder head/intake, etc. If you are using just the ABA bottom
end, then using the A2 or scirocco accessories and bracketry, and a 1.8L
cylinder head  works very well.
