How many have broken their pedal assembly?

When I took the interior out to paint I noticed that mine was already
welded! Now .. Would a passat unit fit cuz im going the 02J route :) Im
pulling today all the anciliaries froma 92 passat 16V NON-ABS Master
Cylinder, Front Brakes, rear brakes and the Clutch Master Cylinder. Now
will the peddal assembly fit from the passat to the scirocco??? If not I
don't want to waste my time crawling under the dashto get the bugger
out. LMK

The piece I mean is the round cylinder that holds the clutch cable back.
Wondering cause I just took mine out, and purchased a used one, and I
don't wanna have to take it out again.  Is this common?   Should I
reinforce it before putting it in (perhaps a few weld lines?).  Thanks!
