Which of the two cars listed above is it about & does the car have A/C?
(and/or power steering?) If it doesn't it makes things a lot easier.

VW water pumps usually come in a two piece affair; but they should be
treated as a whole unit. The little bolts that hold the two halves
together generally like to break when getting turned out as the aluminum
rusts (galls) to the steel 9 mm fasteners.

There are 4 bolts holding the unit to the block, these are a good way to
get the damn thing off the motor.  There is a gasket O-ring in there,
it's usually a good idea to replace it, although in a pinch a little
added hi temp silicon (I said a _little_ ) can be used to make up for an
old one being stiff and shrunken (keep your mind on track there people).


Upon reinstallation you will want to avoid over tightening the belts
because the bearing on the pump and other accessories can be ruined by
too much tightness.
