kinda OT rocco vs. rabbit

Holy crap Patrick, you're confusing even me (and I have my French/Canadian
filter activated)!

Jacob, I'll try to shed some light on your questions...

ANY non 16v Scirocco has TONS in common with ANY Rabbit. They're all A1
chassis. Most mechanical parts are swappable. The engines and
transmissions are easily swapped - the only differences are (from earliest
to latest) carbs to CIS fuel injection (you probably won't find many North
American cars with carbs though) - CIS to CIS lambda (oxygen sensor loop
added) - CIS lambda to CIS-E (on 16v cars). (there are other systems in
later cars, but these are what you'll find commonly in Rabbits or
Sciroccos). The engines themselves are a direct swap - but if you're
looking for the best fuel economy, upgrade to the CIS lambda system if the
car isn't already equipped. All 81 and up cars came with the lambda system
(80 on California models). I personally wouldn't "upgrade" to CIS-E, not
worth the hassle IMHO...

For a great history on what cars came with what options/engines, check out
the History sections on the <scirocco.org> website in the Mk1 and Mk2
areas...

The Rabbit pickup is known as a Caddy. It is basically a Rabbit with a
stretched rear end with a bed. Don't confuse the name Caddy with Cabby (a
Rabbit convertable - Cabriolet).

Scirocco parts are generally just as easy to find as Rabbit parts, except
for a few notable exceptions - ANY new Mk1 Scirocco body panels are
hard/impossible to find - including glass (I lucked out on finding a brand
new Mk1 windshield - one of the things made of "unobtainium"). Mk2 Scirocco
and Rabbit body panels are still readily available (but there are signs that
stock is running out on various items - get'em while you can!)

If you have more specific questions as to which part you would like to swap
from a different car, there are many knowlegable people on this list who
will be able to answer your question. What is the basis for your questions
btw?
