fuel/igntion cut at 2-3K rpm

I have a vw scirocco 16v with CIS-E.  when I'm driving at 2-3K RPM I get
a fuel or ignition cut.  Its to the point where I can push on the gas and
I get no response.  if I let go of the gas pedal and let the car fall to
idle it responses and works ok.  Does anyone know what maybe the problem?
 Its my daily driver so i'm worried.
