'81 Scirocco FS - SW Ohio

Anson & I just got back from checking out an '81 Scirocco
for sale locally. Overall, the car is in nice shape.
Glenn is the original owner and has cared for the car
throughout its life, with all the receipts to prove it.

The first thing I looked for was rust in the usual places.
(It's been a daily driver since day one, and continues to
be.) All strut towers are rust free. There are a few
spots here and there on the body itself (around the antenna
hole, behind the front and rear wheel arches) and the of
course there is the floor. Overall, not bad, with a fairly
small area in the passenger rear quarter that's starting to
rot. It's totally saveable at this point, but should be
high on the priority list just to be safe. There is a
small soft spot under the driver's rocker around the rear
door that is a little soft, but also easily fixable and not
in as critical a location. The car has not been wrecked,
although both fenders have been replaced due to separate
incidents. (He hit a post in a parking lot, and someone
backed into the other fender.)

Under the hood was pretty clean for a car that hasn't
really been "cleaned" under there in 22 years. The
interior is in VERY good condition, although it is brown.
The exterior paint is "ok" but not perfect - it looks good
from 5 feet away.

The car drives well, is quiet and fairly rattle free. The
master cylinder needs replaced as it grabs low. Also, the
tach stuck at around 4k rpm when revved out and I limited
my "abuse" as Glenn looked like he was going to scream once
I got beyond about that point. (He's an older gentleman
and I doubt the car has seen a lot of high rpm usage in a
very long time.)

There is more description and some pics on Greg's site -

I'd be more than happy to help someone acquire the car.
Glenn is VERY concerned that it goes to a good home. I can
arrange, if necessary, to pick up the car and hold it 'til
Cincy.
