can I remove my 8v head without draining the oil?

your concern is that when you take the head off, water will almost always dump out and make its way into the oil. you can take the gamble, yank the head, and if theres no water spillage, commence the party :). if you get a little water in the oil it should burn off after the first run. you can always just dump the oil first, do the head stuff, re-drain the oil pan afterwards (to get rid of potential water), and throw the (same) oil back in.

  Hey all, I want to get my damn broken exhaust stud drilled out ASAP(sick of the noise).  Anyway, I changed my oil about 200 miles ago and really don't want to drain it when I remove the head.  I know there's no way to get by without draining the coolant, but keeping the oil would be nice:)  Shouldn't the vast majority of it be settled in the oil pan? Thanks in advance-
