88 16V tranny noise



it soulds like your 5th gear needle bearing is going (the cause of the play).
5th gear gets the least lubrication in 020 trannies. its also the first to get
starved of oil when your tranny fluid runs low. you may have a clogged oil
passage on the way to 5th. As far as doing something you shouldnt have, if it
was a 5th gear set from another 020, it should be a simple gear swap, no tricks
or anything.
