Engine choices



I actually didn't know it was all about turboing.  Thought he just wanted
something better than the motor that is in there.  Anyway, I would like to
answer your question though.  The difference between an 8v and 16v is the
flow.  What I mean by this is that two valves per cylinder openning at the
same time on a crossflow head increases flow.  The 1.8T is also a crossflow
head and a multi-valve head.  The next turbo motor VW plans to make is also
a multi-valve turbo.  So, it is a combination of experience, opinion, and
watching to see what the manufacturers do.  HTH!
