16v has more power when motor is cold?

Another odd loss of power, after I completely rebuilt my '84 8v, PP'ed the head, 4-2-1 manifold, and Audi 5k TB, it has never had as much power as it did at 170,000 miles.  I'm pretty damn sure it's not just in my mind, good compression so the power must be in there SOMEWHERE-
