Do I need HD valve springs?

Nate,
You have an 84, therefore it is a solid lifter JH motor. You said you
put in an Autotech 268. The 268 is a hydro head cam. I believe you have
the 286? That is the solid lifter cam. If that is the cam you have, the
answer is yes, Autotech's lititure says they are required. The reason they
are required is that the 286 cam has a lift of .436. Stock springs are
close to their 'coil bind' with a cam that has a lift of .425. High
performance springs have less coils and therefore can be compressed more
than stock springs. The biggest cam you should use with a stock solid
lifter set up is the G-cam. Rick Kellner.
