intake "cyclone generator" (was RE: scott)

Mike, I think the benefits of those cyclone generating things have been
repeatedly debunked. Consider where the fuel gets injected into our engines
and how short a duration of time the fuel and air actually have to mix
together. Direct port injection ensures that there is a basically straight
shot at the intake valve. Thus, even if beneficial turbulence were
generated, the effect that it would have on atomization, etc., would likely
be very minimal.

The benefits would probably better for a carbed vehicle, but even in those
applications I've never seen anybody speak highly of these parts. In our
case, I think all they'd do is pose an obstruction in our otherwise
free-breathing intake systems.

Well, rig it up in the name of science! I'm just skeptical about the
possible results. Don't listen to me, though; go for it! If you do design a
mount for the air filters, however, I'm definitely down for a set.
