Just read an interesting column on coolants in the latest issue of CAR & =
DRIVER.=20
Here's some recommendations (from a Zerex technician) that apply to our =
Sciroccos, they deal primarily with corrosion issues:
1) Do not use 'orange'(Dex-Cool, 100K miles coolant), use the =
older-formula 'green' stuff...yellow jugs of Prestone/white jugs=20
    of Zerex.
2) Mix, 50-50, with distilled water only, not tap water.
3) Change every two years.
4) Thoroughly flush the system before adding new coolant at change-out. =
This means 3-4 cycles of drain, fill with clean =20
water, warm up to normal operating temps, drain, etc. (commercial =
radiator flushes were not mentioned, but I suppose=20
     they would be okay...)
5) Unless your 'roc's coolant system is empty/dry, start the engine and =
allow it to come up to normal operating temps =20
    every 30 days.

There will be more stuff on this in the next issue....

Subject: need advice on adjusting the shift linkage

Back when I did the swap into my 16v, I installed a short shift kit =
(actually, Raffi did most of the work! ;). But the tad =
out-of-adjustment it's been in has now begun to wear on me.
  =20
Imagine your hand outstretched straight in front of you with you thumb =
pointing straight up to the sky what would be "12 o'clock". Rotate it to =
the right with your thumb now pointing to "1 o'clock". That's the way my =
shifter seems to be aligned. 1st gear seems to be right in between where =
1 and 3 usually are. And reverse I right in between where R and 1 =
usually are. I can even get the car in R without pushing down.
  =20
This alignment makes it difficult to engage 1st (the way-low =
engagement point of my newly installed manual clutch cable doesn't help =
either) and downshift into 2nd.
  =20
I imagine it's just the matter of a small adjustment of the main =
"elbow" one way or the other. But can anyone tell me which way and how =
much according to my symptoms? The less time I have to spend tinkering =
with it the better (my fianc=E9e's got me on a tight schedule this =
weekend with wedding stuff! :)
  =20
  Thanks in advance! Jeff
