[OT] Rally rules

You know what, I didn't even notice the comment about being too cheap to buy
the rule books. Jerry, stop what you're doing and listen to Neal very
closely.

Racing costs money. Rallying, in particular, can be very expensive. My first
few years ran me about $3000 a pop -not including the upfront costs of the
car, fire suit, helmet, licenses, etc. Then, I started getting fast, bought
a new car, and then totalled it in my second event out. That cost me about
$6000 right there on the spot. Whoops! As we say in rally, "There are only
two kinds of drivers, those who have rolled and those who will".

Organizing a team is no joke, either. My own "Usually Sideways Rally Team"
has taken several years and a substantial investment of time/energy to
nurture. Are you ready to take business owners out to dinner and pay? How
about incorporation and legal fees? Got a service/tow vehicle? You'll need
to house and feed your crew while on the road. Can you afford the time off
from work? Yeah, there's lots to consider here. You can go small or do it up
big. Regardless, it makes that rulebook investment look like a
pittance. -which is exactly what it is.

Dats da troof, my man. Save your pennies and take up stamp collecting until
you're willing to shell out some bucks. Otherwise you'll just end up broke
and pissed off.
