Miranda only applies if the two following conditions are present:

1) Custody
2) Interrogation

One without the other does not require Miranda.  And interrogation is not, 
"This your car?"  or "What's your name and DOB", etc.

It's more like "This your knife?"  "Did you use it to stab your wife because 
she sold your crack-free Mk1 dash in a garage sale for $2?"
