Water pump repair/replacement (quick Q)

So I have never replaced a water pump (well not one made after 1931).  Do I 
want the one that is on this engine I might buy?  If so what is it worth?  
Mileage is unknown, but it's a '92 that is the second engine in a 118k car.

So when a water pump goes bad, do you replace it? repair it? need the core?

What's a used pump worth?  Like $10?
