Hey, I wave my Fartfignewton flag higher than any other! However, I have
been incredibly impressed with my new 2.5RS. As for soul, though... I'm
beginning to lose track of what that is when it comes to cars. Modern cars
are typically so damned refined that their character tends to be engineered
right out of them.

I dunno about you, but to me the average new VW or Audi seems bland. The
character that my Sciroccos and Rabbits have delivered in spades seems to
have been largely eliminated in the A3 and A4 platforms.

This 1999 Impreza 2.5RS of mine is definitely right up there on the
refinement level -probably on par with an A3 car. However, the fun factor is
absolutely there. The motor is tractable if not "fast". Oversteer is a power
on/power off/ whenever you want it affair. It has basic quirks that call for
some time spent with the car to truly appreciate. Finally, the Impreza crowd
is about as close to oldschool Dubbers as one can get. There's actually
*less* rice and the focus seems to be more on performance and driving.

Suffice to say that I'm very happy with my experience so far. Does the
Impreza have soul? Well, I'm not sure if any new cars do. Does it inspire me
behind the wheel and otherwise? Oh yeah it does. Big time.
