where do you get valve shims!? How do you get old ones out?

You can head out to a junkyard and collect a few from several different
heads :-)

The intake valves are all about right-on, but EVERY exhaust valve is off(could that have anything to do with the fact that I just had new exhaust valve guides pressed in?). Anyway, can I just get adjustment shims from a NAPA-type place or do I have to go to Potter, or, ugh, the dealer(!). Also, any tips on switching them would be nice. The engine is out of the car right now, and the only step I think I may have trouble with is seperating the shim from the thing it seats in. I don't have the special pliers, what else will work?
