020 Tranny constant mesh question

 My MkII does the same thing.  It's related to linkage adjustment and/or
worn bushings.
See Bentley.
The problem doesn't surface because you rev it out, it happens because you
try to shift quickly.
Until you get the linkage adjusted/bushings replaced, try shifting with a
slight pause at the neutral gate.
This works for me.
