oil light flashes

What kind of oil filter are you using? The cheap ones will do that...

Where are you located? 

I'd try a heavier oil, 15-40 or 20-50, unless you are way up in the
north, with a Mann oil filter.

Did your oil pressure change with the new oil pump?
