WTB: 16v exhaust manifold (welding?)
Verily, my son, thou hast been led astray.
Cast iron has been welded for decades using high-nickel filler material.
Lest you be perpetually in the dark, cast iron is NOT used in high-heat
areas. Automotive exhaust manifolds are NOT high-heat. At least, not
viewed in a global sense. High heat is jet engine afterburners and rocket
nozzles. (both of which I am familiar with) What materials do they use?
Columbium(niobium) and ...ahem, nickel superalloys.
So, weld up a cast iron manifold with the ol' nickel rod and the weld
repair will outlast the original cast iron manifold.
(Next time you see exhaust valves or headers made of any of the Hastelloy
or INCONEL alloys, you're looking at nickel-based material.)
