removing the a/c

That's not what I did. My car is a late 84 and is (was) identical to the 85
I had. I mounted the alternator in the small upper bracket that used to
hold the 2 ton cast iron AC bracket. It's almost in the same place, but the
smaller bracket is offset toward the passenger side compaired to the old
mounting of the alternator, so I didn't need a new alternator pulley or
anything. I did have to get a golf upper alternator bracket with the nice
tensioning bolt and a waterpump pulley off of a rabbit in a yard. I beleive
that I also got the crank pulley too, I can't remember and have long since
replaced the crank pully with a billet piece that holds my MSD wheel. I
know that I pulled all the yard pieces off of a rabbit without AC or power
steering, so it had just a basic setup of crank, alternator and waterpump.
I also had to buy the 2 shorter waterpump housing attachment bolts since the
original bolts were used to hold the big AC bracket and the waterpump
housing to the block.

After I bolted it up went to the local parts store and bought a belt for a
rabbit without AC. It all fits just fine. I have the RPM limiter set at
8000 (yes it will actually go there) and have never lost a belt. It's been
on the car for about 5 years now.

I can take a few pictures if you like.
