TT race RP vs. DP w/cat difference (was: Re: HEADERS!)

I felt a difference on my car and I wasn't even running a cat!!  I had a TT
downpipe welded to a custom system then swapped out the whole system for a
TT race DP with TT cat back system.  I like the race DP better for a couple
reasons:  1.  Sounds like a header on a V8,  2.  Seems to have a little more
top end, 3.  Low maintenance, no clamps, flanges, etc., just one big
downpipe that extends all the way back to the cat back system.  Granted,
they do cost a little, but not super expensive!!  HTH!!

Does anyone have real-world experience with the difference between the TT
race downpipe and TT downpipe w/ Cat us deprived California folks are
supposed to use? If it's significant, I'd have no problem swapping that
thing out every two years for the smog check...

It is still the case...

Techtonics no longer sells the OEM flex joint, instead they now sell a
16V repair downpipe.

The 16V repair downpipe, is basically the front half of a TT 16V
downpipe, that you weld to your old cat.
It replaces the 6 bolt flange, flex fitting and the two downpipes between
the cat and the exhaust manifold.
