MK1 rain gutter removal, yay or nay?

I'm getting the body done on my 81 S, and was wondering if I could
remove the roof rain gutter without serious negative consequences... 
Other than water running off the roof and into my lap when the door is
open, is this a bad idea?  I'm removing the rear side markers as well,
trying to clean it up a bit...  Any other suggestions while I'm at it?
