saturday ramblings/wheels/snowflakes/purple power/elbow grease

Saturday ramblings:
Did some research on the parts i got hangin around here. decided to wheel out the stack of 6
snowflakes (set of 4 grey and 2 2-tone white/silver) that i've got and try to clean em. After a
quart of purple power, some carbeurator cleaner (gets moly off nice), and about 2 hours they were
all clean. Did some eyeball checks for out of round, one of the grey ones has like a 1/8 inch flat
spot on the inner (pissed me off cause i thought they were all perfect, but easy enough to fix). The
2 white/silver wheels are a bit banged up in random places, but thats not why i got my hands on em.
I wanted to know if they were the same as the silver ones.
Originally i had thought that black/silver snowflakes were actually machined on the front face.
This is untrue. Turns out the ONLY difference between single color and dual color snowflakes is the
paint.
This is good news, as i no longer need snowflakes, just gonna strip/paint the set of 4 grey ones
to match the original black/aluminum look of gtx wheels. This set will be the 'sleeper' set that
goes on the twin to complete the euro-gtx look. The other set i plan to use will be 16x7.5 ssr
competition wheels with kumho v700's for rubber. I know i'll probably like the ssr's so much i end
up leavin em on year-round, but i wont be happy unless the project looks like a full blown stock gtx
at least once in its lifetime.

Here is some misc vw p/n's i grabbed off the center caps:
2-tone snowflake 'vw' caps (small cap that covers the center hole, has vw circle logo): 321 601 171
B
single color snowflake 'volkswagen' caps (that cover the whole center, including lugs): 176 601 149
Anyhow, im off, gonna try to get the rubber yanked off of these things.
