Cam Question!!

A quick way to determine lift is to measure 2 cross sections. To aid in visualization, imagine the
cam lobe is pointed straight up. Measure the longest cross section (peak (top) of lobe to bottom of
base circle-bottom (i.e. vertical distance)). Then measure narrowest cross section (horizontal
across the center of the camshaft, measuring the diameter of the base circle itself, as to not
measure any of the lobe). Subtract horizontal from vertical and you've got your lift. This
measurement may be a tad off if the duration is so extreme that the cam is oval at the places you
use to take the horizontal check.
