Brakes

It's not that cross drilling isn't effective. I believe that properly cross drilled rotors are better than slotted rotors. The problem is that they are also more prone to cracking, especially when they are cheaply made, and thus there are often better ways of achieving your goals.

Their effectivness comes into question because most street cars (under normal driving conditions) aren't likely to run their brakes hot enough to exceed the stock vented rotors, and therefore the cross drilled rotors become moot.

My personal opinion is that upgrading to cross drilled rotors is something that should be done down the line, after you've made brake pad and brake fluid upgrades. If you need to upgrade the rotors, I'd recommend going slotted simply for reliability's sake. If you are going to be getting alot of track time in and feel that you want cross drilled rotors, that's fine. Just be prepared to possibly have to replace them. But barring the extreme cases, I just don't think they are necessary...

And no, I'm not saying that cross drilled rotors will crack. But they are more likely to.

i know this has discussed before, but it seems the crossdrilled theory is
that it's not really all that effective right? (compared to slotted) My
wonderings aloud are this: i was recently at the local high dollar Lotus,
Porsche, Ferrari, Aston, and everything else high zoot dealershit and I
noticed all the over $50k cars with x-drilled not slotted. Why this? no
flame wars plz, just dialogue :)
