020 tranny ?

To be honest it doesn't sound very good. Nothing in there should make
noise. The only other thing you could try doing is replacing the throwout
bearing. You can do that without taking apart the whole tranny but I have
doubts if that will sove your problem. Did the gear oil have anything in
it? Did it look metallic.

One other simple thing to check is to see if you have dented the green cap
on the 5th gear cover. There is not much clearance there and it's easy to
dent the thing so it contacts the gear behind it.

What kind of noises is it making? Metallic? Clicking? Does the frequency
of the noise increase with the engine or with the speed of the car. I've
rebuilt several of the 020 gearboxes and they are really pretty bullit proof
except for the self machining syndrome. Does it buzz when going into gear
or after it's in gear? Does it do it in all gears? Does it make a crunch
when going into reverse?

Where are you located? If its somewhere close then maybe I can help. I'm
in Columbus, Oh.

E-mail me and let me know.
