What the fudge is this connector?

This has been bugging me ever since I got my Scirocco last fall, and
other problems aside, I'd sure like to know what the heck it is.

Under the driver's seat, there's a small two-wire connector with wires
coming out of the carpet.  There's a mating connector with wires coming from
the seat, but it's unplugged.  I don't have seat heaters, but could that
possibly be stock wiring?  And if so, why in God's name is it there?
Enquiring minds want to know.
