Installed new head, engine wont start...

First of all - I missed the first few portions of this thread - is it an 8v
or 16v?

For 16v (and maybe the 8v (not sure)):

Have you tried installing the distributor slightly loose and rotating it
while cranking (may require your wife's assistance with the cranking part)?
This is impossible (well, nearly) to do by yourself.

Once we did this, it started right up...HTH, JT
