I'm in California too, and I had several smog checks that went down like
yours, except I passed 3 times with a 16V mounted in my 1981. I was turned
down only once by a guy who knew it wasn't supposed to be there, but the
other three tested it and passed it. I would think that yours is an much
less obvious engine swap and wouldn't anticipate any failures based on the
visual inspection. Get your idle where it's supposed to be and you should be
fine.

BTW, officially you've done an illegal swap out here in California. The smog
referee will never approve an engine swap from an older car into a newer
car. It's just against the rules.
