Re: How to remove stud from head???



I've had lots (too much!) experience with this problem
lately...  The advice I will pass on from a longtime
VW mechanic friend of mine is to heat the area around
the stud, not the stud itself.  Heating the stud will
expand it, and soften it - two things you don't
want...  I used an oxy/acc torch set pretty low.  A
propane torch should be hot enough though...  Just
make sure you move the torch around alot.  Two of the
three studs I've had to remove recently snapped off
about 1/4 inch from the head, but I was still able to
remove them with a vise grip (tightened with
super-human strength!)...  Good luck!
