Mark,

My experience with blown head gaskets have always had a major loss of power.
After seeing the gasket there has been a hole blown between two cylinders
causing little or no compression in the two effected cylinders. I suppose
you could have blown the gasket between an oil runner and a cylinder which
is causing the smoke, but I don't think that would be the case. If you've
got an internal engine problem that is causing the smoke, I'd suspect that
you might have blown a piston ring.

A quick check for that is to drain your oil into a clean oil pan and then
run your fingers through it. If you see or feel any metal particles in it,
it's likely that you've got some piston ring problems.
