Re: Why Slot your Rotors (or pads)?



I just machined slots into my Passat's new rotors because:

10% - hot gasses escape from pad (I don't race the Passat)
30% - water's surface tension is broken by slots, so pads don't hydroplane
40% - I want to machine stuff to get experience while I can use some of the 
school's machines (and my bits/endmills)
20% - aesthetics

If I were autocrossing this car I'd probably have more justification, and 
having slotted these rotors, I think drilling would be easier, so I'd 
probably do that instead.
