Well, that makes sense. The tighter the adjustment is at the tranny, the 
further "out" the pedal grabs. Tighten it enough, and you don't need to push 
the pedal at all. :-)

There should be some slack in the clutch cable. Otherwise, as the disk 
wears, the pressure plate will start to not put full pressure on the disk. 
Eventually there will be slippage and glazing, not good.

Anyway, that's not your problem. Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging 
fully, a pisser for sure. I once had the spring for the new Sachs clutch 
disk break and lodge itself in the PP, causing similar (but not progressive) 
problems.

Others have made all the suggestions I can think of, so I won't repeat them. 
If all else fails, look at the Bentley some more.

But for now, loosen the cable adjustment, and check all those other things 
out.
