RE: What's the straight dope on SS brake lines?

Well, as I have said many times, I don't really know that much about
cars, but I do know a bit about hydraulic systems. In any hydraulic
system, of course, the heat will be generated wherever there is
friction, but that heat is passed on to any conductive component of
the system. In breaks, the caliper should take most of the heat, but
if the fluid is sheathed in an insulating material right after the
caliper, then it can not shunt any heat it picks up from the caliper,
thus dramatically increasing the chances of boiling the fluid inside
short length of hose right near the caliper, and not allowing the
caliper to pass on any more heat. By using a relatively heat neutral
material like Teflon, and wrapping that in a conductor like steel,
you allow the fluid, and therefore the whole system to shunt extra
heat, which not only cools the fluid, but in tern helps cool the
entire system.

The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.

Hot brake fluid doesn't cause brake fade(unless you actually BOIL
it).....hot brake pads cause it.
