RE: Ooops Re: MSD Box Installation

That makes a lot of sense to me. Thank you. I was thinking that it could
be the idle regulator problem but after working 9 hours on my car I wasn't
in the mood to troubleshoot this anyfarther. My last configuration was
simular to the one you suggest I had one black wire on the coil, one on the
msd box but I still had both negative wires on the msd box. I'll let you
know how it goes.

Re-reading you message, I realize that I may be very mistaken. I'm used to
MSD's digital ignition controllers, so I didn't notice that you are still
using your stock ignition as well as the MSD box. The green wire and the
black wire that doesn't get power from the ignition switch should go to the
MSD box. As for the other two, I would assume that the other black wire
(whose job is to supply power to the ignition control unit, apparently)
should probably be joined to the first black wire at the input side of the
MSD box. That's my guess, anyway.

The red/black wire might be your problem. On an 8v, that wire goes to the
idle boost control unit. Maybe the boost valve is staying closed because
this is a bad connection or something. Just guessing. Maybe that's why
your car dies right after it starts? Look for a bad connection in that
line, and if that doesn't work, try switching it to the coil instead of the
MSD input side.

Sincerely, and hopefully more accurate this time;
Brian Haygood
