Re:'76's

I recently purchased a '76.5 Mk1 from a list favorite, Jonas Miller,
as the basis for Grassroots Motorsports $2002 challenge.

In general the car is in good condition - no exterior rust except for
a few spots around the windscreen and on the driver's door. The
windscreen is new as is the seal. The backlite was resealed but
still leaks :( The floors have a few pinholes and one hole, per se
but nothing that a welding torch and some POR-15 can't remedy. The
car has been painted a few years back and is mostly shiny although
the colour is turd-brown.

The drivetrain was a 2.0L bottom end with a 1.8L head - the head
sounds like it has a bad lifter and the motor has enough blowby to
look like a diesel. The car also came with an ASF transmission -
wide ratio and generally useless.

The head needs to go to the machine shop for a freshening and
(hopefully if money permits) some porting and polishing. The bottom
end may get rings - it depends on how bad it looks once the head
comes off. The transmission is going away and will be replaced with
a 4K.

The car came with supposedly fresh Bilstein sports and Neuspeed
lowering springs. Our '81 S donor car has a plethora of stress and
sway bars that will transfer quite nicely onto the '76.5.

The interior, while OE, is esentially trash - no carpets to begin
with and the front seats are shot. That will all be replaced with
the interior from the '81 S as well.
